Cash, condoms and alleged promoter collection chart found at councillor Ananya Banerjee’s ward office

Fresh controversy erupted around the ward office of Trinamool Congress councillor Ananya Banerjee in Mukundapur on Monday after local residents claimed to have recovered cash, condoms and documents allegedly linked to collections from property developers. The incident reportedly took place while Ananya Banerjee was attending an official event at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The claims made by residents have not been independently verified.

According to local residents, people entered the ward office and found boxes containing cash and various materials inside the premises. Residents also alleged that relief materials were stored in the office and claimed that money was recovered from cupboards and lockers. Some residents further alleged that a substantial amount of cash had been removed from the office before the incident, although no official confirmation of these claims was available.

Residents also stated that several household and luxury items were present inside the office, including a microwave oven, refrigerator, bed and a room used for makeup. The discovery of these items prompted questions among local residents regarding the use of the ward office and the purpose of the facilities maintained there.

Further allegations were made regarding the recovery of documents that residents described as a rate chart allegedly connected to collections from promoters and property developers. Local residents claimed that money was regularly collected from developers operating in the area. These allegations remain unverified, and no official findings regarding the documents have been announced.

Responding to the controversy, Ananya Banerjee denied any wrongdoing. She stated that the presence of various items inside an office was not unusual and noted that Eid had recently been celebrated, making the presence of clothing unsurprising. She maintained that nothing illegal had been found and said similar incidents were occurring in different parts of the state amid ongoing political developments.
